Session Twelve - 10/05/25
1832 AS Namal 6
Battle of Sam
Sam reaches out and touches me. I notice his hand has become skeletal with decaying flesh falling off of it. I feel the unnatural pulse of necrotic damage flow through his touch. I slip the ring on my finger and feel it’s protective power flow over me. Sam tries to grapple the ring back but fails. I push him away from me and draw my rapier.
I attack him with a flourish of attacks and hit him multiple times. The noise attracts the attention of the party and Corvinas is the first to respond towards the growing fight at the rear of the caravan. He prays and his longsword glows with sacred flame as he moves towards the action. He pulls out a miniscule scroll with a prayer written on it and speaks the words of his faith as the holy power of his god enshrines him with a protective aura.
Bridgit fires her short bow at Sam but misses and nearly hits Faban.
Richard the ranger shouts the words “hunter’s mark, aim true!” while firing his bow at Sam and his arrow strikes true.
Five rangers appear and attack us. They shoot at Bridgit but she dodges the arrows. Corvinas is struck by one arrow. They miss Richard completely.
Gildas attacks Sam with arcane words and outstretched hands and three rays of energy fly towards the enemy. He hits Sam and Sam’s robes begin to smoulder.
Mikani moves towards the enemy rangers as energy emits from her mouth while channeling the guidance of her god. She takes two of them out. She shouts “Heal!” and Corvinas’ wounds begin to mend.
Roon rages and cleaves a ranger into two and then moves forward and another ranger within range.
Meanwhile Sam casts something ancient and evil, dealing psychic damage to Corvinas and myself. He pulls out a black dagger and slices at his wrist. What kind of evil is this? Whatever he attempted to do with the dagger to himself did not seem to have the effect that he was hoping for.
I hit Sam twice and also shout “Heal” and Corvinas’ wounds are bound further.
Corvinas invokes his god twice while striking with mighty blows against Sam, hitting him twice with both physical strikes and god imbued power.
Bridgit uses her bow and hits true against Sam
Richard also strikes Sam twice with his bow
One of the rangers strikes Mikani with their bow and another attacks Roon with a critical blow with their shortsword, but Roon is able to parry the blow at the last minute.
Gildas repeats his ray attack on Sam, but fails to hit this time.
Mikani invokes her gods again and this time Holy flame rains down on one of the rangers, however, the ranger is nimble enough to avoid being struck. She asks her gods to protect Corvinas and she smiles as she notices her god does answer the call.
Roon, still engaged with the second ranger, attacks with a fury of blows and slices his head cleanly from his shoulders. Seeing his opportunity to flank, he steps up and attacks Sam, hitting him with a massive back swing of his axe.
Sam reaches out to Corvinas with his cursed hands and Corvinas finally succumbs to his wounds and falls.
I attack with a fury of blade strikes with my rapier and strike true at the same time I yell “Heal!” at Corvinas, hoping that I wasn’t too late to help my friend. Corvinas stirs. He touches himself and the holy healing energy flows through his body, bringing him from the edge of death.
Bridgit hits with her bow on Sam again as does Richard with his longbow
One of the enemy rangers takes aim at Mikani, sure of a massive blow, but pulls too hard on the bowstring and snaps his longbow in half.
Gildas attacks a third time with the Scorching Ray, and one of the ray’s strikes Sam.
Mikani steps up and attacks Sam with her warhammer and calls up a glowing hammer next to her which also attacks and hits Sam.
Roon attacks Sam with his broad axe and hits with a critical blow that would have killed most people. Sam still stands.
Sam once again slices at his hand with the foul looking dagger, this time slicing through as black blood spews forth and along the blade of the foul weapon. A necrotic energy burst forth that summons from the deepest pits of hell, two large frog like creatures that emit a stench from the very pits that they were summoned from.
I tell a joke backed with power and Sam begins to laugh uncontrollably. Corvinas takes the opportunity to strike a killing blow severing his arm from his body in the final blow. He immediately follows up by throwing a javelin at one of the frogs which hits, sinking deep in the soft ooze of the frog’s flesh.
Bridgit hits one of the frog’s with an arrow from her bow. And Richard also strikes a frog with his longbow, marking it with the mark of a hunter.
The last enemy ranger gets too close to one of the frogs and chokes on the stench and dies.
One of the frog’s hops over to Corvinas and attacks and Corvinas goes down again, near death and dying.
The other frog attacks Roon and Roon feels the bitter bite and the searing sting of the frog’s poison enter his body.
Gildas attacks again with scorching ray and strikes one of the frogs, whose oozing flesh bubbles from the wound.
Mikani conjures a curse from her god asking for energy to shatter the frog into a million pieces. The frog absorbs the attack, looking hurt but not defeated. She also screams “Heal” again, attempting to save Corvinas.
Roon, seeing all this becomes a killing machine and submits a fury of blows, each one landing against a frog. The frog finally ceases to move after the assault.
I pull out a small shard of glass and conjure up a thousand small daggers to descend on the last frog. The blades strike the frog with a thousand cuts until it ceases to move as well.
I search Sam and find the dagger that he used and give it to Gildas for further examination. Gildas figures it is necrotic in nature and probably from the abyssal plane. Corvinas mentions the history of the dig site and the abyssal nature of this as well and that perhaps these are related.
