The Party forms
Major Events
- discovery Bentrios Bentrios City is introduced as a thriving technological city where warforged entities work for their masters, and Alexander's Inn in Bentrios is a focal point of activity created by Alexander Venrid's tavern chain.
- social Alexander's Inn Bridgit, a halfling with the obvious bearing of a thief, enters Alexander's Inn, takes a seat at the bar, ignores Faban's entertainment, and nurses her ale.
- social Alexander's Inn Roon, a half-orc fighter and drinking companion of Faban, enters Alexander's Inn, renews his effort to recruit Faban into the city watch, and buys him an ale while Faban switches to one of Roon's favorite songs, Urgan the Brave.
- social Alexander's Inn Corvinas, an obvious paladin of Mihira, enters Alexander's Inn, and Makani, a blue dragonborn, quietly drinks at the bar while Faban performs the ballad of Urgan slaying Ryjax.
- social Alexander's Inn Gildas, a frustrated-looking elf wizard, enters Alexander's Inn, orders fish tacos and ale, and is later understood to be searching for an artifact.
- discovery Alexander's Inn A warforged waiter in Alexander's Inn glitches and fails; Gildas and Corvinas investigate and learn similar failures have been happening across the land for months, and Faban's own card sorter promptly fails and burns cards he won from the Duke of Westerbrook.
- social Alexander's Inn A city watch guard rushes in looking for Roon, reporting issues throughout Bentrios and urgent need at headquarters; Roon quickly enlists Faban, Corvinas, Bridgit, Makani, and Gildas to help.
- combat Bentrios The newly formed party rushes into the streets of Bentrios with Roon to help, and a large rock-being attacks them, beginning the battle that continues into session 01.
Session 01
The Battle
Major Events
- combat Bentrios The party fights a regenerating construct-like creature in Bentrios; Faban is nearly mortally wounded, Corvinas smites it with Mihira's holy energy, and Bridgit lands the final sneak attack that destroys it.
- discovery Bentrios Gildas detects magic in the rubble, Faban retrieves a round red orb glowing orange, and Gildas determines that it was planted, uses long-lost magic, and contains evocation magic.
- discovery Bentrios Gildas also senses strong protective and concealing magic from Faban's leather satchel, and Faban becomes defensive, insisting that it is his burden to bear.
- discovery Bentrios In a nearby building's basement room, Gildas gazes into the orb, sees a fiery realm resembling the Nine Hells and the Demon Lord of Rage, then breaks contact and drops the orb, cracking it and releasing some of its contents before it is mended.
- discovery Bentrios The party decides to seek Mayor Baron Wells at Bentrios Tower; as a tempest forms, Makani realizes the storm is unnatural and caused by the Demon Lord of Lightning bringing it down on the city.
- discovery Bentrios The party reaches the tilted Bentrios Tower, rushes to the mayor's penthouse, finds the door ajar, and overhears infernal speech: Baron Wells says he has done all he can, while a second voice demands that he has five days to get what is needed.
- discovery Bentrios Roon charges into the room, the demon lord calls him a foolish mortal, disappears in a flash, and the ground shifts as Bentrios Tower rights itself.
- discovery Bentrios The party interrogates Baron Wells, who says demons are collecting items from around the Gale and seek Urgan the Great's lost axe, also known as the Blood Rage Great Axe of Urgan, which is rumored to be infused with Urgan's rage energy and hidden underground.
- discovery Bentrios Faban recalls an ancient ballad saying Urgan's bride, Jennifer Wilbreta, a pale elf of the Fey, traveled south from the northern mountains and buried Urgan's axe somewhere in the central plains.
- discovery Bentrios Baron Wells is constrained by vows but confirms that the axe is definitely underground and shows the party a map pointing to an unexplored forest teeming with Fey Wild magic.
Session 02
Visit to the Temple of Knowledge
Travel
- Bentrios -> Fey Woods foot , 1 day high Diary dates span Apollal 12 to Apollal 13; inferred as 1 elapsed calendar day.
Major Events
- social Bentrios The party visits the Temple of Knowledge in Bentrios, seeks Father Joseph, and asks him about the infernal orb, the animated construct, the storms, Salazar, and the Great Axe of Urgan.
- discovery Bentrios Father Joseph says the orb is likely tied to the Demon Lord of Rage, says powerful magic may be controlled by another being like a marionette artist, and explains that self-aware construct magic is rarer and stronger than ordinary somatic construct magic.
- discovery Bentrios Father Joseph believes Salazar, the Demon Lord of Lightning, is probably separate from the Demon Lord of Rage seen in the orb; he recommends carrying the orb in a padded case and says the Fey Woods are the best place to look for Urgan's Axe.
- travel Bentrios On Apollal 12, the party leaves Bentrios for the Fey Wilds, seeing how the city's machinery has failed and older practices like sundials and oil lamps have returned; along the road they encounter a blacksmith trying to rouse a failed warforged, and he tells them Urgan's Axe was crafted by dwarves a millennium ago.
- social Road to Fey Woods On Apollal 13, during the second day of travel, the party meets an old man near the Fey Wilds who warns them not to make deals with the fey, mentions a pack of gnolls about a half-day from the woods, trades riddles with Faban, and gives him a potion of healing.
- social Fey Woods Near the outer Fey Woods, Faban tries to light a fire while the party discusses blazing a trail, and a nearby tree strikes him; the tree is Oak, a dryad, who says she is bound by a vow of silence about the axe but warns that fey are hostile to outsiders.
- discovery Fey Woods Oak says a hag or gnoll might know more, suggests seeking a satyr or centaur for safe passage, and directs the party toward a lightning-struck tree and then west to a lake where they may find a centaur.
- social Fey Woods The next morning, a blue-skinned fey creature tells the party she knows about Urgan's Axe but wants them to lead gnolls to the Satyr camp in exchange; the party refuses, and she brandishes her claws as combat begins.
Session 03
The Battle of the Fey Witch
Major Events
- discovery Fey Woods The witch leaves behind a satchel that appears empty but radiates illusion and aberration magic; after the party pokes it with a stick and Faban throws in a copper piece, the bag releases souls and an ancient necromantic tome that Gildas examines.
Session 04
The Village of Thataways
Travel
- Fey Woods -> Thataways foot , 0 days high Session04 begins on Apollal 13, the same in-game date as the fey witch battle; the centaur leads the party from the Fey Woods to Thataways before Apollal 14 events.
Major Events
- social Thataways The birdfolk wizard escorted the party to a partial sage council where the witch sage and centaur druid heard about the hag's plan to push gnolls into attacking the village, the demonic god Yongu, the infernal orb, and the party's search for Urgan's Axe.
- discovery Thataways The sages identified the Allegiance of Stars as outsiders threatening Thataways and said the full council might allow the party to use Urgan's Axe if the party took care of that threat.
- discovery Thataways Faban busked in Thataways that night and gave the proceeds to clerics; at the inn, Gildas cast detect magic and saw an infernal mark on Corvinas' forehead but no mark on himself.
- acquisition Thataways The next morning, the full sage council agreed to let the party use Urgan's Axe if they promised to return it and handle the Allegiance of Stars problem; the sages produced the leather-wrapped axe from a rune, gave care instructions, and Gildas placed it in the bag of holding.
- discovery Thataways When Makani asked about the Celestial Isles, the sages said the outer rim had been devastated by primordial storms from chaos with no known counter short of god-like power; when asked about Jennifer, they said she is a strong spellcaster, the last of a dead breed, and lives far north in the mountains.
- discovery Thataways The sages said there are other Wells of Magic across the world, that the Wells can help explain the current technology failures, and that when the party returned with Urgan's Axe the sages would allow them to speak with the Thataways Well of Magic; the party asked for and received an escort out of the fey wood.
- acquisition Thataways As the party prepared to leave Thataways, the satyr violinist who had jammed with Faban blessed Faban's fiddle with magical runes, increasing the instrument's quality and brilliance of tone.

- social Bentrios At the mayor's office, the party demanded Baron Wells return Urgan's Axe when he was done with it; he said he would try and admitted his political power, economy, military choices, and foreign dealings were failing.
- discovery Bentrios Lightning struck in the room and Salazar appeared, examined Urgan's Axe, recited an incantation, and revealed he was bound by an infernal contract to fix things for Baron Wells in exchange for access to artifacts including the axe.
- discovery Bentrios Salazar fulfilled the contract by shunting Bentrios back to its most prosperous Age of Discovery state; Alexander's Inn disappeared, the tower collapsed into the old town square, people were confused, warforged vanished, and Salazar disappeared with a wink.
- acquisition Bentrios Faban vowed to capture the fall and contract of Baron Wells in a ballad titled The Contract of Baron Wells.
- discovery Bentrios Father Joseph explained that Wells of Magic had opened, that similar events were once called the Cataclysm, that the Wells are potent sources of magic, and that the party must learn how to close the Wells from the Wells themselves.
- discovery Bentrios Father Joseph said Hanedal Island has one of the Wells, that there are no known maps to it, and that the Cataclysm forms from natural storms created under unnatural circumstances.
- discovery Bentrios Faban connected Father Joseph's description of unnatural storm-cataclysm to the destruction of the outer Celestial Isles where Makani's people originated.
- discovery Bentrios Father Joseph said the Alliance of Stars is based in Bentrios and is a small adventuring party; Faban sent a query through his underground network for information on the group.

The Well, named Khorag, said it did not know its siblings well, revealed that one sibling was in the heart of the Gale at a monastery of the Open Hand, said it had five siblings, said all Wells are bound to tell the truth, said it was connected to nature and the divine god of nature, said a Well can be closed with the Wand of Wells, named Jennifer as the last known user of that wand, and warned that one of the party was lying by omission.
